DANTE ALIGHIERI
Dante Alighieri, the Florentine poet is shown here with a writing pad. He is represented as a youth displaying the title of his first great work Vita Nuova which means ‘New Life.’ In this book he tells the story of his love for Beatrice whom he had met as a youth and fallen in love with. Dante's most famous for The Divine Comedy or Dante's Inferno . Considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time, he eclipsed even the ancient Roman poets in stature. These included Lucretius, famous for The Nature Of Things, Virgil (Pastoral poems), Ovid (Metamorphoses), and Horace (Odes and verse Epistles). |
